I am a recent graduate from the University of Edinburgh with a 2:1 MA Hons in
Arabic and French. I am writing to apply for an internship in your translation
department. The puzzle of
languages has fascinated me since a young age and I would relish the
opportunity to develop my linguistic skills in a professional environment which will help me towards my goal of becoming a translator.

My degree required a great degree of flexibility and that
is something which I believe I can bring to this role. Moreover having juggled the commitments of full time student
and aspiring athlete during my studies, I am highly disciplined and accustomed
to handling multiple tasks. I enjoy variety in my work as it constantly
presents me with new challenges.



As a language student, I have been exposed to a
wide variety of literary, journalistic and technical texts for translation
purposes. I also am well versed in editorial work having served as assistant
editor of my school newspaper. More recently, I have used my language skills to help foreign students
at my university improve their idiomatic English and offered a correction and
proofreading service for exchange students needing help with essay writing. Thanks to this experience I have developed an attention to
detail which I believe is essential for translation.

In addition to this I have several years of coaching experience in judo which has allowed me to develop my communication skills. As women's captain of my university's judo team I worked with members of the committee to pursue the common goal of improving and developing our club. I contributed to this effort by offering my services as a coach and by making use of social media platforms, video editing software and relationships with other sports teams to help promote the club.

I held various positions of responsibility while I was at school:

I
worked in the Library as an assistant, using the computer interface to enable
others to find books. I aided in the implementation of a Dewey Decimal system
of organisation and promoted use of the library among my fellow students,
achieving an uptake in library usage.

As
Sports Reporter I played an active role in the creation and distribution of the
school newspaper. I took charge of writing and organizing the sports column,
communicating well with members of the relevant sports teams to provide weekly
match reports.

Volunteer Judo Coach | Scorpion JC, Peter Symonds

I have eight years of sports
coaching experience as an assistant coach at my former judo club and at
sessions run in my college. More recently I have worked as the main volunteer
coach at the Edinburgh University Judo Club - EUJC. I enjoy relating to people
of all ages in both individual and group scenarios and sharing my love of the
sport. I look forward to obtaining a formal coaching qualification in the
coming year.

During my
tenure as the Women’s Team Captain I endeavored to increase female attendance
at the club and achieved an increase of 300% during my incumbency. I created a
compilation video for promotional purposes and was present at the Fresher’s
Fair to aid with recruitment. I also liaised with other clubs to arrange cross
discipline training sessions. I lead a weekly training session where I taught
competitive techniques and helped with any queries. I then coached and
organised players at competitions.
